[2026. 10. 18.] 성경 과외를 해보려고 합니다.
‘성경 과외’라는 말이 조금 낯설게 들릴 수 있습니다. 사실 저도 처음에는 그렇게 느꼈습니다. 그런데 자녀들이 영어, 수학, 운동 등 부족한 부분을 보완하고 실력을 키우기 위해 과외를 받는 것처럼, 성경도 각자의 필요에 맞게 배울 수 있으면 좋겠다는 생각이 들었습니다. 그래서 우리 교회에서 ‘성경 과외’를 해보려고 합니다.
성경 과외는 교회에서 정기적으로 진행하는 성경공부와는 조금 다릅니다. 정규 성경공부가 정해진 주제와 교재, 일정에 따라 체계적으로 진행된다면, 성경 과외는 배우는 사람의 필요와 형편에 맞추어 자유롭게 진행됩니다. 시간과 장소, 일정은 서로 의논하여 정하고, 배우고 싶은 주제도 함께 이야기하며 선택할 수 있습니다. 정해진 기간이나 이수 조건 없이 궁금한 점을 편하게 질문하고 충분히 대화하며 말씀을 배울 수 있다는 장점이 있습니다.
진행 방식도 다양합니다. 일대일로 배울 수도 있고, 부부가 함께하거나 마음이 맞는 몇 사람이 모여 그룹으로 공부할 수도 있습니다. 대상은 우리 교회의 어린이부터 청소년, 청년, 장년에 이르기까지 모든 교우입니다. 아직 예수님을 믿지 않거나 교회에 다니지 않는 가족과 이웃도 원한다면 함께할 수 있습니다. 다만 다른 교회에 출석하는 분들은 소속 교회의 목회적 돌봄과 신앙교육을 존중하는 차원에서 성경 과외의 대상에 포함하지 않으려고 합니다.
일반 과외에는 적지 않은 비용이 들지만, 성경 과외는 무료로 진행하려고 합니다. 카페에서 만난다면 커피 한 잔을 사거나 번갈아 부담해도 좋고, 가정에서 만나면 별도의 비용 없이 진행할 수도 있습니다. 중요한 것은 비용이나 형식이 아니라, 함께 말씀을 배우며 믿음이 자라가는 것입니다.
어쩌면 이런 시도는 우리 교회가 작기 때문에 가능할지도 모르겠습니다. 하지만 작은 교회이기에 누릴 수 있는 장점도 있습니다. 성도 한 사람 한 사람의 필요를 더 가까이에서 살피고, 각자의 형편에 맞게 말씀을 나누며 함께 성장할 수 있다는 것입니다.
성경을 더 알고 싶지만 어디서부터 시작해야 할지 몰랐던 분, 궁금한 것이 있어도 여러 사람 앞에서는 질문하기 어려웠던 분, 자신의 신앙과 삶에 필요한 말씀을 배우고 싶은 분은 누구든지 편하게 말씀해 주시기 바랍니다.
성경 과외가 단순히 성경 지식을 쌓는 시간을 넘어, 하나님을 더 깊이 알아가고 삶이 변화되는 은혜의 시간이 되기를 바랍니다. 작은 교회의 장점을 살려 우리 모두가 주님께서 기뻐하시는 성숙한 믿음의 사람으로 자라가기를 기대하며 기도합니다.

[2026. 10. 18. ] I’m Thinking of Offering Personalized Bible Study
The expression “private Bible tutoring” may sound a little unfamiliar. To be honest, I felt the same way at first. However, just as children receive extra help in subjects such as English, mathematics, or sports to improve their skills, I thought it would be good if people could also learn the Bible in ways that meet their individual needs. That is why I am planning to offer personalized Bible study at our church.
Personalized Bible study is a little different from the regular Bible study programs we offer at church. While regular Bible studies follow a set topic, study materials, and schedule, personalized Bible study can be arranged more freely according to each person's needs and circumstances. We can discuss and decide on the time, place, and schedule together, as well as choose topics that the learner would like to explore. There is no fixed duration or completion requirement, so participants can ask questions freely, have meaningful conversations, and take time to learn God's Word at their own pace.
There are several ways to take part. You can study one-on-one, together with your spouse, or in a small group with a few people who share similar interests. This opportunity is open to everyone in our church, from children and teenagers to young adults and older members. Family members and neighbours who do not yet believe in Jesus or attend church are also welcome to join if they wish. However, out of respect for the pastoral care and spiritual education provided by their own churches, I do not intend to include people who regularly attend another church.
While private tutoring in other subjects can be quite expensive, I plan to offer these Bible study sessions free of charge. If we meet at a café, we can buy a coffee or take turns paying for it. If we meet at someone's home, we can simply study together without any additional cost. What matters most is not the cost or format, but learning God's Word together and growing in faith.
Perhaps this kind of initiative is possible because our church is small. Yet being a small church also has its advantages. We can pay closer attention to the needs of each individual, share God's Word in ways that suit each person's circumstances, and grow together in faith.

My hope and prayer is that personalized Bible study will be more than an opportunity to gain biblical knowledge. May it become a time of grace in which we come to know God more deeply and experience real transformation in our lives. I pray that we will make the most of the strengths of our small church and grow together into mature believers who are pleasing to the Lord.
